Free Word & Character Counter

Different formats have very different length limits. This counter shows words, characters with and without spaces, sentences, paragraphs, reading time and speaking time as you type.

A limits table tells you instantly whether your text fits a press release, SEO title, meta description, X post, LinkedIn post or Instagram caption. The keyword table lists your ten most used words, excluding common stop words, so you can spot repetition or check that your main topic is clear.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many words should a press release have?

Most press releases work best between 300 and 800 words. That gives journalists the key facts, a quote and background without burying the news.

How is reading time calculated?

Reading time assumes 220 words per minute, a typical adult reading speed. Speaking time assumes 130 words per minute, a comfortable pace for presentations or video scripts.

Does the counter include spaces in the character count?

It shows both. Social networks and meta descriptions count spaces, so the main character figure includes them.

Is my text uploaded?

No. Everything is counted in your browser.
